It all began with a vertical, eight spaced Ikea shelf (which, by the way was much harder to build than the instructions made it seem). I didn’t even use most of the spaces for books. There was one space dedicated to my favorites, and the rest of the shelf was miscellaneous TBR and picture or short chapter books from late elementary/early middle school.
During eighth grade, though, I became a voracious reader, and my personal library outgrew the skinny shelf. The first change was to tilt my shelf from vertical to horizontal and use the top as shelf space. Which then led to stacking a smaller shelf on top solely devoted to “to be read” books. At that time I also got to use the wall behind my shelves for hanging fanart, subscription box cards, and bookmarks. I kinda miss that big wall of art, but I also enjoy how I have changed my shelf since then.
The last and most recent addition I have made to my personal library is by building three shelves into the wall. The eight-unit shelf is still in use to hold middle-grade books, photo albums, picture books, and a selection of books by Marie Lu. There is also a roll-top desk below the mounted shelves which holds the books I most hope to read next. The lowest of the mounted shelves are dedicated to favorites, which are mostly YA books. The middle shelf is an assortment of books that I have both read and have yet to read, organized in height order. Then the top shelf is partially TBR, as well as partially dedicated to advanced readers copies which are placed in order of release. I also have room around the shelves to hang various artwork, which is very nice.
I will always take reading recommendations! “Aristotle and Dante” has been on my TBR for a while after several friends recommended it to me. I hope to get to it soon.
Do you take reading recommendations? If so, I definitely recommend 'Aristotle and Dante discover the secrets of the Universe'. I first read it at 14 and I've read it over and over since then (I'm 16 now), and this is still undoubtedly my favourite book.
