The Bookshelf

My bookshelves are my favorite thing in my room. My main bookshelf is the newest edition in a long line of shelves. I recently hit the point where I could no longer fit all my books on my shelves and my Grandpa built me this one to line the back wall of my bedroom. I am in love with it and I cannot wait until the second one is finished so that I have a matching shelf. II like to own the books that I read. For school I buy all the books we read in class so I can annotate through them. I love organizing my shelves into categories and adding accessories that I think go with the theme. I think Funko pops are a wonderful little thing that can add to any bookshelf.

I especially love Harry Potter Funkos, if you can't tell, because Harry Potter is my childhood. My Harry Potter shelf is one of my favorite shelves, and once I get my second wall covered in shelves I will be able to add my other collectibles to it. I love being able to display all my Harry potter books in one place. I have my original and only copy of the series, as well as some magazines, the Cursed Child, a British edition of the Deathly Hallows I found at a used bookstore, Fantastic Beasts, and some other extra books.

The History of my Shelves

I learned to read when I was very little and ever since then I have been obsessed with books. As a kid I would spend all my money buying books and for christmas and my birthday I always received new books or giftcards to buy books. I started out with one small blue bookshelf that my Grandmother painted for me. I filled it quickly and began to stack books vertically inside of it. I still have that bookshelf and it holds all my childrens books. I loved that bookshelf with all of my heart and I showed it off to all of my elementary friends. Eventually I got another, taller bookshelf for my growing collection. I used it to hold my growing tide of middle grade and eventually YA and adult novels. I spent

That bookshelf I now use to hold my binders and school textbooks.

The Tour

I loved and love having my own personal library. I always have a place to grab a book from and I also have a recommendation handy for a friend. I like to own the books that I read. For school I buy all the books we read in class so I can annotate through them. I love organizing my shelves into categories and adding accessories that I think go with the theme.

I have two shelves, or cubes, that house all of my school books and classics. I really like to look through these books because most of them are annotated. I love looking back through books I annotated because I like the way they look and sometimes I read an annotation or two and I am transported back to a different time. Books hold so many memories in their pages and that is one of the reasons I love collecting books so much. Different books represent different time in my life and looking through my library is like going back down memory lane.

I have another shelf that is made up of old books or special addition books. I love that shelf because it has a lot of my moms old books on it and those are books that my mom used to read to me when I was little. My mom and I would sit for ours and read. She would read me chapter books and I would read her my Dora Early Readers or my favorite Scooby Doo books. I also have a book that one of my best friends bought for me at a used bookstore in London, and while the story of the book makes me love, I really cherish the book because she put so much thought into that gift. I love receiving books as presents because the person who bought me that book really knows me and it means a lot to me when I love a book someone has gotten me or recommended for me.

I also love shopping for books at used bookstores. When I was in fifth grade I lived in a really small town and we only had a tiny little bookshop. That year my friends and I became obsessed with the A Series of Unfortunate Events series and there was no way for me to buy them. We had to take turns checking out the singular copies of each book at our school library. Years later I was at Ed Mckay and I stumbled acrosss the first book in the series and I bought it. Since then I have collected the entire series from used book stores (Even though one is missing in this picture. Blame my cousin.). I have a few other books by Lemony Snicket on my Unfortunate Events shelf. This shelf makes me so nostalgic and I absolutely love it. I have done this same thing with a few other small series. I love the challenge of trying to complete the series buying only used books.

One of my favorite, if not my favorite, genres of books to read is historical fiction. I love history in general and on my history shelf I have the large, and very interesting, Hamilton biography that I slaved over for four months. I love this shelf because I can always run and grab a good book that will take me back in time from it. I love the range of ages that is represented too.

I think personal libraries are such a cool way to express yourself. I think anyone who stops to take a second to look at mine can see a little glimpse of who I am. I love that I can subtle express myself through the way I display books. Having your own little library ensures that you always have something to read, whether its for the very first time of the fifth. I hope everyone enjoys looking at me shelves in this post as much as I enjoyed talking a little bit about my books.
