Bookshelf Tour: Suzie

Okay, before we get started, I should say that my bookshelves are a bit of a mess. A beautiful mess, but a mess nonetheless. They once had a method of organization, of course, but then I ran out of space, and everything got more and more chaotic has I continues to purchase more and more books.

So with that disclaimer, let's jump into my main bookcase! I'm going to go section by section in an attempt to give you a coherent tour, but uhh... we'll see how that goes lol.

Here's a fun fact about my room: I don't have a dresser to hold my clothes. I used to, but that was back in a time when I only had two bookcases in my room. But then a day came that I realized that I cared far more about my books having a nice home than I did about my clothes having drawers to sit in. So I got rid of the dresser, moved in two more bookshelves, and now use one of the OG cases to hold my clothes. These are the two bookcases I replaced my dresser with. They contain the vast majority of books that I both own and have finished, but I have another case in the back of my closet that holds most of my TBR (I don't have photos of that one because the lighting in that room is very not good, but it holds about 100 books that I will probably never find the time to read, if I'm being completely honest with y'all). The other OG bookcase (you know, the one not holding my clothes) is just art supplies on the bottom four shelves. We'll get to the books on the top two shelves in a second. Finally, I have a night stand that holds some very special books.

Okay. That's some backstory, so now to go through shelf by shelf. Well, I say shelf by shelf. Really, this first section is three shelves, and I'm not going to go through them each one by ones.

These are my (read) high fantasy shelves. They used to be alphabetical be the author's first names. My genius self didn't think far enough ahead to make separate columns for the authors' first and last names when cataloging my books, so when I alphabetized the list, it did it by first name & I was too lazy to fight it. However, that was long enough ago that the first and third shelves were only about half full (the other halves held art prints & various knick-knacks), and since then, many books have been added. I've also taken down most of these books to take photos for Instagram (follow me @undeniablynerdy777), and at this point even individual series aren't fully together anymore. As I told you in the beginning, my bookshelves are a mess...

My next two shelves are (mostly) contemporary fantasy! It starts off with my set of the Harry Potter series, which has been my first (and only) foray into painting the edges of my books' pages. At the end of the second shelf, you can find the 4 notebooks that are currently in my rotation of use, and two that I still have space to fill once I finish with the others! The red one is for writing, the taped black one is for sketching, the untaped black one is for book quotes/doodles (I'll do a whole post on that one eventually), and the little blue one holds my schedules & lists!

The final shelf of the left case holds my dystopian books! I am a little sad about how few dystopian books I own because I have really enjoyed most of the ones I've read. In fact, Wilder Girls by Rory Power is on of the best books I've read all year! However, I find interesting dystopian books so rarely that I haven't even had to jam-pack this shelf full yet :/

On to the right bookcase! The top shelf is prints, team photos, and other memorabilia, but the second shelf is actually the first author to ever get an exclusive shelf on any of my bookcases! And in case you couldn't tell, that author is Sarah J Maas. This shelf contains both her A Court of Thorns and Roses Trilogy and the Throne of Glass series. As you can tell, I have a serious problem wen it comes to buying multiple copies of the same book. What can I say? I love special editions!

Below the SJM shelf lies my (tiny) realistic fiction section & a small portion of my TBR pile. And in case you weren't certain, the LEFT side is realistic fiction set. You know, the side with, oh... eight books on it? Yeah, I don't read realistic fiction very often... This shelf also hold the programs from most of the performances I've been to see in the last year or so (I am missing the ones for Mama Mia and Avenue Q), and one the right edge I keep the tickets for movies I've seen pinned up! Unfortunately, I am missing at least a few (probably more), but oh well. That's the way of things, isn't it?

Directly below that lies my misc shelf! I contains books from musicals (namely Hamilton and Phantom of the Opera), fairytales, poetry, and books that I felt didn't really fit in anywhere else! It is probably the biggest mess of any shelf on any of my bookcases, but I kind of absolutely love the chaos of it! it just feels fitting, I guess.

The shelf below that is three shelves in one. From left to right it is: my Roshani Chokshi books grouped together, unread ARCs I own of books that have already been released, and, finally, unread special editions that I have gotten in Fairyloot boxes!

There is another shelf below these that is a split between sci-fi (another genre I haven't read a lot of) and books I have started, but didn't finish. Coincidentally, a fair amount of the unfinished books also happen to be sci-fi! So that's mildly interesting, I guess. Unfortunately, I failed to get a photo of this shelf, sorry! But if you look closely at the first full view phot of all the cases, you can see it in the bottom right.

Now on to the shelves that are not a part of the two main cases!

These two shelves are on one of the OG bookcases. The top shelf is devoted to all of my Cassandra Clare books. Below that is my mythology shelf. Please not that this is not a shelf of books based in mythology. Most of those are still on the contemporary fantasy shelf. These are specifically books about mythology (stacked sideways on the left), and books that are either by Rick Riordan or from his imprint company, Riordan Presents (stacks upright on the right).

Welcome to the final shelf! Congratulations on making it through the rest of this post! This final section of books lies in the bottom of my nightstand. It holds every book I own my Claire Legrand (aka my absolute favorite author), and every single book on it is excellent! It also happens to be the only shelf/section where I thoroughly enjoyed reading every single book on it. Seriously, ALL of her books are good! They are ordered by when the first entered the world, so series aren't together, but hey! Chronological is just as good a organization system. I am currently working on completing my Legrand collection, which means I still need to get The Cavendish Home for Boys and Girls, The Year of Shadows, and then I have to find people willing to trade me ARCs of her earlier books. So... It's going to take me a while, but that's the plan for this section!

And those are my bookcases! Mostly. One day I might show y'all my TBR case, but that day is not today. What did you guys think? Did you see any of your favorites on my shelves? Were there any books you were hoping to see but didn't? Please, let me know! I am always happy to talk about books, whether I've read them or not!
