Helloooooo! My name is Charlotte and I am a sophomore in high school.
I joined the Teen Advisory Council at Bookmarks in April of 2018. I have always been a reader, but in the past three years I have REALLY dived into the Bookworm (excuse me, Book Dragon) scene. That means going to book releases and author festivals, writing reviews, and starting a Bookstagram account ( @_books.and.beyond_ ). As of right now, some of my favorite books are Six Of Crows, Illuminae, Caraval, The Gentleman’s Guide To Vice And Virtue, and Valley Girls.

Six Of Crows (I want to rant about it for just a little bit) is an action packed heist attempted to be pulled off by a group of misfit teens that don’t quite belong where they are. It’s about found families and accepting yourself and others. This book has made me cry on several occasions, my hardback copy is tabbed up in a color coded system, it has even been a conversation starter for me in the first week of school. I absolutely recommend it if you haven’t been able to figure that out yet.
Right now I am in the middle of reading and reviewing an Advanced Readers Copy of Aurora Rising (by the same authors who wrote Illuminae: Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman).
In addition to reading and occasionally reviewing books, I love writing fantasy/fiction, painting, drawing, mixed media sculpture making, taking photos of pretty much everything, and creating playlists of music to pair with books or that tell their own stories.
TAC has become a very important part of my bookish activity in the past year, and I am glad that I get to help plan amazing author events at Bookmarks. One of my favorite events to plan since joining was the YA Summer Solstice Party in June of 2018. We had three different book inspired events going on around the store as well as trivia, snacks, and costumed characters. I would highly recommend trying out a meeting if you are even slightly interested. The community of people who work and volunteer at the store are so very welcoming and have made me feel like I’ve been going to Bookmarks for much longer than a year.
