Looking Forward: Our Most-Anticipated 2021 Reads

The end of each year brings with it hope and excitement for a fresh start, but no year has provided so much relief as the change from 2020 to 2021. Along with the general relief that 2020 is now behind us, the Teen Advisory Council is looking forward to many 2021 releases and to finally reading some much-anticipated books on our TBRs. Below are a few of our most anticipated reads of 2021 and what to expect about them!

Jessie

I wanted to start off 2021 in a relaxing way with a fun read, so I'm reading the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series for the first time. They're middle-grade books and easy reads, but I've just never gotten around to reading them. This year I'm excited to read the books I've been wanting to read for a while and haven't gotten around to. For me, that means a lot of fantasy series.

There are also so many new books coming out in 2021 and I can't wait to discover some new favorites. I'm really looking forward to Muse by Brittany Cavallaro. This is the first book in a duology that will be released on the second of February. The book takes place in an alternate version of the Chicago World's Fair. It involves magic and explores the United States if it was a monarchy.

Charlotte

Can April 2021 come any sooner? I cannot wait to read Kate In Waiting by Becky Albertalli. This is the first solo book that Albertalli has written outside of the Simonverse, but I have no doubt it will be amazing. Becky Albertalli has never done me wrong. Having a crush can be exciting, but sharing that crush with your best friend can bring drama, and not the kind that you want on stage. I am really excited to see this story make its way into the world, and curious about what theater jokes it will contain.

Alyssa

I am so excited to read The Orphan of Salt Winds by Elizabeth Brooks! As a major history nerd and lover of British history, this book has everything I love from mystery and intrigue as well as a wonderful coming of age story.

We, the Drowned by Carsten Jensen is an adventure book that spans over four generations and a hundred years of history starting in the year 1848. The twists and turns and peril that each character faces is unique and is a tale of courage and the importance of family.

Eliza

As a lover of retellings and beautiful, descriptive writing, it's no surprise that I've grown enamored with Melissa Albert's writing and The Hazel Wood series. Tomorrow, an entire book of Albert's beautifully twisted fairy tales will be released as Tales from the Hinterlands, and I could not be more excited for its release. These fairytales feature characters from the original series, giving insight into the characters and plot that create the very fabric of Melissa Albert's world.

Sidney

Angie Thomas's Concrete Rose has been anticipated for so long, but the wait is almost over! The book comes out tomorrow, January 12, and is Thomas's third book. Her first book, The Hate U Give, follows Starr, a civil rights advocate, who lives in a Black neighborhood but goes to a mostly white private school, echoing the feelings of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. The new book will follow her father's story of becoming a man amid the pressures of life. I'm so excited to read this book and learn more about Starr and her father's journey!

We hope you enjoyed learning about our most-anticipated books this year, and that you'll check them all out at Bookmarks in 2021!
