Hey! My name is Nathan, and I'm 15 and a sophomore in high school. While I'm still new to TAC (I just joined last month), I’m really excited to plan events with all the wonderful people at Bookmarks. Growing up, I was always an avid reader, but I only discovered the online literary community a few years ago when I first began to run my (now defunct) book review blog, which has thankfully been lost somewhere in the far reaches of the internet, where it will never be found again.
My reading taste is quite broad, and while my absolute favorite genre is magical realism, I enjoy reading anything that is engaging, interesting, and well written. Currently, I read a lot of contemporary and science fiction YA books, though I’ll always have a soft spot for some of the hard fantasy that I binged during middle school. Some of my favorites right now include the Illuminae series by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff, which has some of the most unique style I’ve ever seen in a book, and Turtles All the Way Down by John Green.
Outside of YA, I’ve really enjoyed reading Stoner by John Williams (which is the only book that has ever made me tear up), Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino, and Watchmen by Alan Moore. But my all time favorite book has to be Ficciones by Jorge Luis Borges, which is this beautiful collection of short stories that are mostly fantastical in nature. It’s a bit dense and esoteric, and there’s a ton of allusions to obscure classic literature that definitely flew over my head when I first read it, but the way Borges plays with time, dreams, and memory makes it completely worth it.
Apart from reading, I really enjoy writing, cooking, and going on hour long Wikipedia deep dives. I’m really looking forwards to working with everybody to plan events and meeting some cool authors as well!
