Congrats everyone! You've made it through another decade of life, and here we are, heading back into the roaring 20s! I, Cat, am personally trying very hard to keep a good track on my reading on my own, so look forward to a post on reading planners in the new year.

But, besides that, I'm honestly probably not going to do much on New Years Eve, but who knows! If I don't, I'll end up reading, and maybe playing a bit of The Witcher III, since the Netflix show has me so hooked on the world.

And maybe you all will be catching up on a bit of reading too, maybe specifically to keep you up until midnight so you can see that new number on your phone and go "look at that!"

TAC has your back with some feel good, New Years-esque reads that'll capture your attention and keep you content and cozy till it's time for that ball to drop!

So, with it in mind that right around that New Years' corner is January, I've selected a book that's all about discovering who you are. Breaking free from the bonds of what you thought you wanted, and diving into a future of endless possibilities.

And that book is : The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow

Here's where I get to rant a teeny little bit about Starless Sea, which should have been incredibly but instead fell so far for me that I felt absolutely desolate about it. Then I picked up The Ten Thousand Doors of January a few weeks ago and BAM. Same concept of your imagination being able to make things happen, your words being magic, and there being doors to other, magical worlds, but actually good.

It's enchanting and as a young woman who grew up always feeling like everything I did just wasn't enough, January spoke to me in ways that no other character has. That need to break free and just lose it since nothing else seems to make anyone happy. Why not make yourself happy?

Why not figure out if that hint of magic you feel under your skin is real?

It's everything I needed from a book this holiday season, and it is sure to enchant everyone, not just young women with imaginations that lead them beyond the real world. It'll certainly lead you into the new year with hope and magic in the air!

Around the time last year, I was devouring my ARC of Roshani Chokshi's The Gilded Wolves. It's no secret I think it's the most perfectly elegant heist book, and will surely keep you company as you ring in the new year. The Gilded Wolves takes place in 1889 Paris, where underneath the dazzling glamour of an already magical city lies a secret magical society; the Order of Babel. The book follows Séverin, who was once the heir of the magical House Vanth but is now bent on getting what he rightfully deserves. He brings together a team of misfits to take on the heist of a lifetime and discover ancient secrets lying just below a gilded surface.

I absolutely adore The Gilded Wolves, with all its witty characters, surprising twists, and compelling narrative. Chokshi makes it a point to examine the ways in which people cover their dirty secrets with a few glittering lies, and the ways these lies can worm their way into our personal truth, making this a unique and intriguing story. All in all, this book is the perfect adventure; complete with clues, a race against the clock, and treasures hidden right under your nose. Expect to be challenged by the complex clues & riddles, be captivated by the elegance of the magical society, & be enthralled by this tale until the very last word, even if it comes after the clock strikes twelve.

If you're looking for a wild, sprawling adventure rife with a diverse cast, hilarious characters, and pop culture references galore, read Once & Future! The book follows seventeen-year-old

Ari Heliz, the latest reincarnation of King Arthur (and the only incarnation who's been a girl), and her reluctantly teenage Merlin along with their ragtag crew of inter-dimensional knights and troublemakers. Once & Future is a high-stakes race amidst the stars as Ari and Merlin work to stop the all-encompassing corporate empire taking over the universe and figure out what happened to Ari's home planet when she was a little girl.

I gobbled up this fast- paced thrill ride in a matter of hours, and am now waiting in earnest for the sequel, which comes out in April, so I guarantee you'll be on the edge of your seat all night, too!

Illuminae by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman is the story of the breakup between two teens and the destruction of their home planet, both of which happen to fall on the same day. Kady and

Ezra thought they were done with each other when they broke up in the school parking lot. A few hours later, they realize that the only people they can trust are each other. Their colony on a distant planet was massacred by an enemy corporation, which is now in deadly pursuit of any survivors. Beyond that, something is afoot with the fleet's technology system which was damaged in the assault. And are you sure the ship isn't just inhabited by PTSD shaking survivors? It's up to Kady and Ezra to find this out and see if they can find a way to survive as well. Illuminae is told through various digital files- emails, crew messages, video transcripts, and more.

This story sucks you in. I remember reading this alone at night and having to turn a light on. It will certainly keep you up late into the new year.
