The Stars We Steal

Princess Leonie "Leo" Kolburg is heir to the once glamorous spaceship Sofi, however, her family has no money and therefore must live on the Scandinavian with her Aunt Freja and cousin Klara. Fortunately for Leo's family, it is now the Valg Season when many wealthy families bring their children to find suitable matches to further their positions in politics. But, Leo wants nothing to do with it, especially when her ex-boyfriend/best friend Elliot returns to the Scandinavian so he and his friends can rent out the Sofi while they are on vacation.

Unfortunately, while the Valg Season is underway, many other spaceships also fall into an economic depression, creating harsh living conditions for families. This drives Leo to create a water filtration system to improve living conditions on struggling spaceships. However, her family doesn't have the funds to patent the one thing that could help save an entire fleet of ships.

In this retelling of Persuasion in space, we see Leo and her friends go through ups and downs of betrayal and love that create a romantic, Bachelorette-esque story that any romantic will enjoy.

My rating: 5/5 stars

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I thought the concept of this book was really creative. Who knew one could roll Persuasion by Jane Austen and The Bachelorette into one book and then set it in space? It's brilliant.

Not only was the concept of the book creative and fun to read, but Alexa Donne creates stunning and complex characters in which relationships are key to their development. The characters must learn to trust one another or else all will be lost. The romances were nuanced and believable. I also appreciated the inclusion of LGBTQ+ characters throughout the book.

Overall, I thought that this book was a fun read, especially over Valentine's Day. The nod to Austen combined with the pop-culture feel made this a fun and romantic read.
