Member of TAC: Emily

Well hello there!  My name is Emily, and I’m a sophomore at Reidsville High School that has been obsessed with reading since fifth grade. The first book that I can remember being obsessed with was Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi, which shaped my taste in literature ever since!  But, until early 2018, the only person I really had to talk about it was my mom.  

Then, out of some magical stroke of luck, my mom told me about a little club at this bookstore in Winston-Salem, and I knew right away that I wanted to be a part of it.  

Being able to help with all the events at Bookmarks has opened my eyes to all the teenage book-lovers a short drive away!  I used to see all these amazing bookstagramers and wished that they would be my friends. And now some of my favorite people have some of the coolest bookstagrams I’ve ever seen!  

I’ve been able to talk about my favorite books that I thought no one else remotely near me knew about.  Books like the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas, Scythe by Neal Shusterman, The Selection series by Kiera Cass, and, last but not least, my OG favorite book:  Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi.  

Another amazing thing about being a part of TAC is getting to meet some of the most amazingly talented authors.  Authors like Jennifer Niven, Angelo Surmelis, Renee Ahdieh, Megan Shepherd, and Roshani Chokshi.

My all-time favorite author event I’ve had the honor of attending was the one with Jennifer Niven and Angelo Surmelis, two of the nicest, funniest people I’ve ever met.  

But when I’m not reading or struggling to finish all of my school work, you can find me writing, watching The Office for the fiftieth time, and snuggling with my doggies, Bailey and Sweetie Pie!
